Your Mazda 6's camshaft position sensor sends your vehicle's camshaft speed information to the engine control module to help determine the timing of the ignition and the timing of the fuel injection. This information is critical in order for the engine to function properly. Over time, the camshaft position sensor will wear out and fail. Symptoms of a failing camshaft position sensor includes: vehicle not driving like it used to, a check engine light, vehicle not starting, or if the engine cuts out and dies while driving.
